The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board is holding a public forum on July 17 and 18 to examine the “regulations, policies and procedures” for general aviation search and rescue (SAR) operations. NTSB Chairman Deborah Hersman will lead a discussion aimed at creating a “dialogue” between operators, manufacturers, industry associations and regulators about safety issues. The four other board members—Christopher Hart, Mark Rosekind, Robert Sumwalt and Earl Weener—and panelists from industry and government groups will also be involved in the two-day forum in Washington, D.C. The second day (July 18) will focus on emerging technologies and the future of general aviation SAR.
