Calstar Picks Eurocopter EC135 for Fleet Upgrade

By Staff Writer | August 16, 2012

California Shock Trauma Air Rescue (CALSTAR) has placed an order with American Eurocopter to purchase eight EC135s. The helicopters are part of a “standardization” effort to replace CALSTAR’s current mixed fleet of Agusta A109s, Bell 222s, Eurocopter/MBB BO-105s and MD902 Explorers. President & CEO Lynn Malmstrom explained that the EMS provider—which operates nine bases in northern and central California—conducted a “very detailed review of out mission profile and requirements so that we could begin the process of upgrading and standardizing our fleet.” Malmstrom adds that safety is the “single most important priority” for the CALSTAR crews, which have amassed more than 70,000 accident-free flight hours.
