Finmeccanica subsidiary AgustaWestland has partnered with two companies in South Korea. The manufacturer plans to establish a series of military training and service centers with Dodaam Systems Co., a training and simulation provider for the defense industry. AgustaWestland has also teamed with Firstec Co. covering security equipment and systems. The agreements represent the initial steps in creating an AgustaWestland military training and support network in South Korea. Maintenance, repairs, spare parts, inventory management and training/simulation services will be included for operators such as the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy. AgustaWestland has around 40 helicopters operating in South Korea, including 23 Mk.99 Super Lynx and Mk.99A variants in the ROK Navy fleet. The helicopters conduct ASW and ASuW missions.
Other types operating in the country’s civil and public service sectors include the AW109, AW119Ke and AW139. AgustaWestland is planning to offer rotorcraft platforms for various Korean programs, including the maritime operational helicopter (MOH), attack helicopter program (AH-X), light civil helicopter and light armed helicopter (LCH/LAH), and the Korea Coast Guard’s maritime patrol and SAR requirement.
