The UK’s Regional Growth Fund (RGF) has approved AgustaWestland’s entry into the contracting portion of a £46-million ($73.6-million) bid for the creation of a Civil Helicopter Hub. Combined with the RGF, AgustaWestland has invested more than £100 million ($160 million) for the creation of a civil helicopter facility that will include a commercial final assembly line and maintenance center. The manufacturer will also team with UK-based Aerohub to establish a training academy and research and development (R&D) center at the new hub. A portion of the RGF support will go towards design and development on the AW609 tiltrotor. The University of Liverpool and the National Composites Center will also join AgustaWestland on the AW609 project.
