Following a naming contest with hundreds of entries, Boeing’s Team Apache has selected “Guardian” as the new nickname for the AH-64E. Gina Gill, who works as a logistics management specialist at the U.S. Army’s Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) Logistics Center, sent in the winning entry. She wrote that the Apache serves as the soldier’s “guardian in the sky,” noting that it “functions as a safeguard for our soldiers on the ground” in addition to its traditional role as an attack helicopter. The contest involved a number of organizations, including the Apache Project Office, AMCOM and industry representatives from Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.
