Eurocopter has renewed contracts with two Abu Dhabi-based companies to provide product support for operations in the Middle East. The contracts were signed at the recent Dubai Airshow.

The manufacturer re-upped its customer support services contract with Global Aerospace Logistics (GAL) “to further strengthen Eurocopter’s profile in the United Arab Emirates and enhance the company’s capability to served the UAE Armed Forces,” according to a statement.

GAL is a leading provider of aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services in the Middle East, and provides daily operational and intermediate aviation maintenance for Eurocopter helicopters flown by the UAE’s Joint Aviation Command, to include spare parts, repairs, training and technical publications.

Eurocopter also renewed its service support contract with Falcon Aviation Services (FAS). Created in 2006, FAS operates a fleet of helicopters for missions ranging from offshore to charter and aerial photography. It also has a service center at Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi, providing maintenance for its own aircraft as well as third-party MRO.

Olivier Lambert, Eurocopter’s senior vice-president for sales and customer relations, said that the contract renewal will offer “continuity in services for the daily operational needs of helicopters operating the Emirates.”

Eurocopter debuted its new next generation EC175 at the show, along with the enhanced EC145 T2. Lambert said that the company’s “strategy of innovation” have been applied to Eurocopter helicopters “specifically tailored to the Middle East region’s demanding operating requirements.”

The EC175 is Eurocopter’s newest helicopter product, fitting into the twin-engine, medium eight-ton class. The EC145 T2 is a more powerful version of the EC145, having new twin Turbomeca Arriel 2E engines, Fenestron shrouded tail rotor and upgraded main and tail rotor gearboxes.
