The Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Air Operations has had a Cloud Cap Technology TASE 400HD airborne imaging system installed on its new Airbus Helicopter AS350 B3e by UTC Aerospace Systems.
The TASE 400HD delivers day/night thermal imagery which the DPS states will be used to support a variety of missions including police patrols, hurricane support operations and drug enforcement tasks. The turret features a mid-wave infrared camera with continuous optical zoom down to 2° field-of-view (FOV). The 1280 x 720 HD daylight camera delivers high definition imagery, as well as onboard GPS/INS for geo pointing.

In June this year the Mississippi Highway Patrol Air Wing took delivery of their new AS350 B3e AStar which was built by Airbus at its Mississippi facility. At the time the Air Wing’s commander Ron Kelly said that the AStar’s cockpit design had proved to be the best “for our mission-specific operation. We also considered performance and payload capability”.
Lieutenant Jason Seal of the Mississippi DPS Air Operations praised the TASE 400HD for its small size and light weight, adding that “it had virtually no effect on aircraft performance.”
