By Staff Writer | October 15, 2014

Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU), based in Boise, Idaho, U.S., announced this morning at Helitech International that the company has signed a new sales and service agreement with Vienna, Austria-based Helikopter Air Transportation GmbH (HeliAir).

With the agreement, ASU will train HeliAir technicians on night vision goggle cockpit modifications at their maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in Vienna, Austria. Together ASU and HeliAir will service and maintain HeliAir’s night vision goggles as well as other customers’ goggles throughout Europe with an onsite goggle maintenance lab and facility. HeliAir will provide sales and support for ASU products. In return, ASU will gain exclusivity to sell HeliAir’s products, such as an exterior mirror used in EMS helicopters, in North America.

“HeliAir has a 30 year history of proven success along with their parent company, OAMTC,” said President Jim Winkel. “In Europe they are well known for their expertise, commitment to saving lives, and ability to perform unique missions.  Our two companies share a passion for excellence, have common core beliefs and believe this partnership will strengthen both of our organizations.”

OAMTC has 16 primary rescue bases, six winter seasonal rescue bases, a hospital-to-hospital service, 47 pilots, a technical pilot, 285 physicians and 185 crewmembers that fly in 27 EC135 aircraft. As a full service provider, HeliAir and its team of 44 engineering, design and maintenance professionals cover the needs of national and international customers. Within two years, HeliAir will completely modify all existing aircraft within their entire fleet and will be able to fly and operate using night vision goggle equipment.

“We are very delighted to announce the cooperation between HeliAir and ASU in the field of Night Vision Imaging Systems (NVIS),” added Reinhard Kraxner CEO HeliAir.  “At HeliAir, we can help ASU to enter the European market and they can support us establishing our market entrance in the U.S.”
