A next-generation variant of the AW109S Grand, the GrandNew is the first type-certified light twin helicopter to enter service with a new EFIS featuring Synthetic Vision, and the first helicopter in its class to fully comply with the latest GPS-based navigation requirements for all weather operations. It comes equipped with a modern EMS interior, a rescue hoist, wire strike protection, snow skis, and NVG compatibility. The Grand series airframes have been used in more than 40 countries for duties including EMS, SAR, passenger transport, and maritime patrol.
The fifth GrandNew will increase Life Flight’s emergency response capabilities. In particular, its NVG compatibility will help the flight team locate hazards, stranded hikers, and rescue personnel during nighttime EMS and SAR operations.
Life Flight operates its helicopters out of four medical facilities in Utah, and deploys specialty teams capable of tasks such as rescue-hoist victim extraction, neonatal transport, and high-risk patient transport.
