Sikorsky Helicopters handed over the first of four S-92s to Bond Helicopters Australia at the Australian International Air Show, which took place at Avalon Airport, Victoria, from Feb. 24 to March 1. A second S-92 was delivered in Brisbane.
Bond Helicopters Australia ordered four of the 19-seaters for operation in the oil and gas industry from Western Australia and Darwin in the Northern Territory. The remaining two S-92s will be delivered later in this year, earlier than originally scheduled, says John Boag, managing director of Bond Helicopters Australia. The helicopters are the first of the type to be operated by the growing Australian helicopter operator.
Meanwhile, Sikorsky has appointed Brisbane-based Sikorsky Helitech as the first Sikorsky-authorised S-92 helicopter customer support centre in the world. The Queensland operation will provide maintenance, repair, modification and completion services for Australian and regional operators of the S-92. The S-92 fleet in the Asia-Pacific region is rapidly growing, particularly in the oil and gas industry.
Sikorsky Helitech has been a Sikorsky company since 2003 and already supports the local S-76 fleet.
