Metro Aviation and Air Methods will launch the cross-country Great American Safety Drive next month, raising money for MedEvac Foundation International efforts to promote safety within medical transport programs and their partner organizations and underwrite safety-related research. Each company is sponsoring a car that will be driven across the U.S. starting June 10. Metro’s 2015 Chevrolet Camaro convertible will take a southern route and Air Methods’ 1969 Pontiac GTO a northern one, with the pair meeting up at the 2015 Air Medical Transport Conference in Long Beach, Calif. Oct. 19. Along the way, the cars will make stops at more than 60 locations of air medical host program. Each “safety stop” will feature education focused on technology, training, human factors and safety culture. The cars will be raffled off at the show to raise additional funds for the foundation.
