The FAA should finalize its new organization overseeing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in the next few weeks. The agency is making its UAS Integration Office, which currently resides in the Flight Standards Service, into a full directorate. Once that change is complete, the UAS directorate would be on par with other FAA organizations like its Rotorcraft and Engine and Propeller directorates. Staff of the current office (AFS-80 within Flight Standards) will move over to the directorate, which will need a manager. The agency is expected to select the person for that post shortly.
