FAA Drone Exemptions Surpass 1,000 Mark

The FAA has granted more than 1,000 drone exemptions under Section 333 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, which allows companies or individuals to operate unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) commercially within the U.S. national airspace system ahead of more formalized regulations. The agency reported a total of 1,008 on Aug. 4. At the time of printing, the total exemptions had risen to as many as 1,111 according to the FAA’s online database.
