The Assn. for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International’s president and CEO, Brian Wynne, responded on Aug. 13 to an FAA report that claimed drone sightings are increasing, calling for "stricter enforcement of careless and reckless operators and those who violate restricted airspace." Wynne also called on the FAA to finalize its small UAS rules, after which he said that "consumers will no longer be able to fly without any oversight or education." AUVSI previously partnered with the FAA, the Small UAV Coalition and the Academy of Model Aeronautics to develop the "Know Before You Fly" campaign to promote the safe and responsible use of the new technology by recreational and commercial users ahead of expected small UAS regulations.
