Airbus Passes on Japan’s Helo Tender

By Staff Writer | September 15, 2015

Airbus Helicopters has bowed out of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force’s tender for a ship-based utility helicopter, explaining as its reasoning a tender format that emphasized "local content versus actual operational performance." This follows the company’s previous bid with Kawasaki Heavy Industries to develop a next-generation UH-X multipurpose helicopter for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. The companies’ H160-based proposal was declined July 17 in favor of one between Fuji Heavy Industries and Bell Helicopter.
