Four U.S. aviation associations plan to call formally on the FAA by Oct. 1 to ease the process for certifying single-engine helicopters for instrument flight rule (IFR) operations. That’s when they plan to deliver their "white paper" on the topic to the agency’s Rotorcraft Directorate. The groups—the General Aircraft Manufacturers Assn., AHS International, the Aircraft Electronics Assn. and Helicopter Assn. International—published the paper on their websites on July 12. Once the paper is formally delivered, individuals involved in the project said that at least one project to pursue a single-engine helicopter IFR certification may be submitted to the aviation agency.
