Egypt to Buy French Helo Carriers

By Staff Writer | September 23, 2015

France has agreed to sell its two Mistral-class helicopter carriers to Egypt following a Wednesday deal made by the countries’ delegates in Paris, according to various media sources. The Wall Street Journal reported that officials speaking on conditions of anonymity said Egypt would pay approximately 950 million euros for the warships. There had been interest from other nations such as Canada in securing a deal since the original 1.2 billion euro deal with Russia fell through following pressure from NATO regarding Russia’s annexation of Crimea and dealings with Ukraine.
