On Oct. 5, engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney Canada announced that the time between overhaul (TBO) for the power section of its PT6B-37A Turboshaft engine has been extended from 3,000 to 4,500 hr. This extension is the result of ongoing investments in the engine to create economic improvements for operators. All PT6-37A engines currently in service are eligible for the extension, meaning no minimum build standard is required. The 1,000- to 2,000-horsepower class PT6 Turboshaft engine family includes more than 25 models, with the more than 3,500 engines produced having accumulated more than 34 million flight hours. The PT6B-37A currently powers the AgustaWestland AW119 Koala.
