The Chair of Trustees of Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust has signed a 6 million pound contract to purchase an AgustaWestland AW169. Also approved was a 10-year contract to lease an MD902 Explorer. The air medical operator, which is a charity providing free helicopter emergency medical services to Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding counties in England, expects both aircraft to be ready to fly in June 2017. To fund the contract, the company said it had secured a 1.5 million pound bid from the government's Libor fund and also used donations from local businesses and the public it serves. The procurement process began in July 2014, and trustees had approved the decision to purchase the new aircraft in December 2015. Medical Aviation Services will fly and maintain both aircraft.
