US, Polish Aviators Practice Air Assault

By Amy Kluber | June 14, 2016

U.S. and Polish forces participated in an air assault exercise called Anakonda 2016 in Poland last week.

About 35 NATO helicopters from the Polish 1st Army Aviation Brigade, 25th Air Cavalry Bridge and the U.S. 12th Combat Aviation Brigade "Task Force Griffin" and 400 Sky Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade performed the battalion-size assault at the 21st Tactical Air Base, in the town of Swidwin.

The attack aviation force conducted landing zone reconnaissance, assessed threats in the landing area and screened the area for armored forces. An AH-64 Apache used a fire control radar system to detect and destroy simulated threats, making way for the infiltration ground force.
