California Gets Largest Air Med Network With Merger

By Amy Kluber | June 16, 2016

REACH Air Medical Services and California Shock Trauma Air Rescue (CALSTAR) have merged, creating the largest network of air ambulance bases in California.

Sean Russell, REACH president, and Lynn Malmstrom, CALSTAR CEO, said CALSTAR will become a limited liability company as part of the agreement, operating as CALSTAR Air Medical Services LLC.
The new company will be one of the three under REACH Medical Holdings, LLC, which is part of Air Medical Group Holdings, Inc. Cal-Ore Life Flight, which merged with REACH in 2011, also is a part of the holding company.
CALSTAR Air Medical Services will operate with its own brand and flight nurse staffing model. Financial terms have not been disclosed, according to a company press release, but proceeds will fund a new nonprofit foundation.
CALSTAR's Malmstrom and two others on his team will assist with the integration, but their roles will cease within the next 12 months.
