LORD Corp. will develop an active vibration control system for Korea Aerospace Industries' light civilian helicopter. LORD will provide technical support and manufacture and supply related components in the future.
The technology uses accelerometers that measure aircraft vibration levels. Signals are sent to a computer running software that interprets the data and sends commands to force generators throughout the aircraft. Those create anti-vibration from the main rotor resulting in a smoother ride.
KAI's light civilian helicopter is expected to roll out by 2020 for first fielding and 2022 for the armed variant.
