Lockheed Martin said the CH-53K King Stallion completed an external lift of 27,000 lb at Sikorsky's Development Flight Test Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
L-M is developing the aircraft for the U.S. Marine Corps. A fourth aircraft is expected to join the flight test program soon.
According to a company press release, the helicopter performed an out-of-ground effect external load test at 100 ft agl. Sikorsky VP of CH-53K programs said the King Stallion is on track to complete the initial operational assessment this year.
The first four of 200 CH-53Ks are scheduled for delivery next year. Four more are expected for delivery in 2019.
