A U.K. hospital now has a new helipad thanks to nearly $4 million in donations.
Sheffield's Northern General Hospital now has a fully operational helipad that can accept major trauma patients from across the region, according to a company press release. Charity HELP Appeal and local businesses helped raise 3 million pounds to build the structure.
The helipad will serve about 1.8 million people from South Yorkshire, Humber, Derbyshire and the East Midlands counties.
According to HELP Appeal's chief executive, Robert Bertram, air ambulances now can access the hospital's emergency department directly.
