Air Ambulance Northern Ireland (AANI) has tapped Babcock Mission Critical Services Onshore as its aviation supplier, providing air medical coverage across the country every day of the year. Babcock will supply two Eurocopter EC135s, according to an AANI news release.
The contract is set to run for an initial three years with a possible two-year extension. Babcock will also provide aviation training and pilots for both aircraft.
Northern Ireland Heath Minister Michelle O’Neill made AANI the charity partner as that nation’s first EMS provider. Babcock, however, has been providing services across the U.K. for decades. There are 32 total air ambulances throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Now the U.K. has HEMS providers in every nation.
A memorandum of understanding between AANI and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service is expected to be finalized soon.
