Beloved ENG Pilot Heads West

By S.L. Fuller | September 19, 2017

The electronic newsgathering community lost a veteran pilot and reporter Saturday, according to reports. New Mexico’s Bob Martin, 64, died in a helicopter crash, as he was the sole occupant of a TV station helicopter.

According to the Associated Press, an FAA spokesperson said the Bell Helicopter B206 was destroyed. There was reportedly a fire at the scene. At the time of the report, it was unclear whether Martin was on assignment when the helicopter crashed.

Reports say that Martin worked for KRQE-TV or 20 years. He also served as Helicopter Association International’s secretary of its Electronic Newsgathering Committee for a number of years. He was heavily involved in generating the “ENG Safety Manual".
