With a pair of new agreements, Bell’s 505 Jet Ranger X is set to perform new missions. The Sacramento Police Department signed a purchase agreement for the first law-enforcement-configured 505, and Helicopters Inc. signed to buy the first two 505s to perform electronic newsgathering (ENG) missions.
“We’ve seen incredible interest for the Bell 505 Jet Ranger X from law enforcement agencies around the world,” said Anthony Moreland, managing director of North America for Bell. (The manufacturer dropped the “Helicopter” part of its name ahead of Heli-Expo.) “Following several successful demonstration flights earlier this year, we’re proud to announce the Sacramento police department as the launch customer for the law enforcement sector.”
Bell said Illinois-based Helicopters Inc. is the largest ENG operator with some 70 aircraft operating in 35 cities.
“Helicopters Incorporated is very excited about taking delivery of its first Bell 505 in May,” said Parker Condie, president and CEO of Helicopters Inc. “During our evaluation, we experienced first-hand the performance characteristics that we feel will make this a great news gathering helicopter. Our pilots especially loved the new design of the cockpit. The visibility is the best of any Bell product to date providing the pilot with an added measure of safety.”
