AgustaWestland will supply five AW109 Powers to the Japan National Police Agency. The contract is part of Japan's ongoing program to modernize its police helicopter fleet. Seven AW109s have been ordered by local police agencies in Japan since 2005. Four AW109s have been delivered to Japanese police agencies this year. AgustaWestland AW139s and EH101s are also operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. In October,  the Japanese Coast Guard ordered three AW139s for maritime search and rescue operations as the initial phase of a replacement program for up to 24 helicopters.
