Washington state officials are investigating whether a firefighting helicopter drew and dropped water from a radioactive pond on a wildfire near Spokane. Initial tests found “no measurable contamination in the water” or in the Washington Natural Resources Dept. helicopter’s bucket, according to The Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Called a tailings pond, the water holds waste from uranium ore processing by a former mill owned by Dawn Mining Co. at the site.     For related news
