Eurocopter says it has successfully tested the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) as an approach and landing aid for helicopters. The manufacturer fitted its EC155 experimental all-weather helicopter (Hélicoptère Tous Temps, or HTT) to use the system. The tests were coordinated by skyguide, the Swiss air traffic control provider, and consisted of a number of approaches to a landing pad on the roof of Switzerland’s Lausanne University Hospital. The approaches were intended to validate the accurate position reporting and navigation system integrity of EGNOS, a joint program of the European Space Agency, the European Commission, and Eurocontrol that uses more than 40 sites all over Europe to refine signals from the U.S. Global Positioning System.     For related news
