Aerospace Filtration Systems, Inc. (AFS) received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from Transport Canada (TC) for an Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) system for Turbomeca-powered Eurocopter AS350 helicopters. AFS IBF-equipped AS350 helicopters can freely operate without any flight or gross weight restrictions. The recently approved FAA and TC Flight Manual Supplement for the AFS Turbomeca-powered AS350 IBF allows operation to basic inlet and sand filter performance charts based on power check results. Paperwork is also being submitted for EASA approval of the AS350 barrier filter. The system is already in use on AS350s under an FAA STC and also for Canadian operators under a Soloy/Honeywell conversion STC. The IBF system for the AS350 features an easily removed flat filter assembly and integral bypass design, readily mounted on the existing cowl without burdensome cowling alterations. A filter maintenance aid allows for on-condition status checks between established cleaning intervals, eliminating unnecessary service. No restrictions are imposed for flight in falling or blowing snow or with visible moisture in non-icing conditions.
