The United Kingdom’s Prince William was awarded his Royal Air Force pilot wings April 11, having completed rotary- and fixed-wing training. The prince trained in Eurocopter AS350s at the Defence Helicopter Flying School at RAF Shawbury.

Standard Aero has appointed Kevin Perris as its supplemental type certificate program director for the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A business unit. He previously served as director of engineering services. Perris holds a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from Carleton University in Ottawa and an MBA from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.

Retired U.S. Air Force CMSgt. Dennis Richardson of the New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing was awarded the Air Force’s second highest decoration for heroism, the Air Force Cross, for rescuing a downed pilot in Vietnam in 1968. He is the 21st airman to earn the medal.

Two Oklahoma Highway Patrol helicopter pilots received the 2007 Trooper of the Year award for their daring rescue of a husband and wife stranded by floodwaters last August. Lt. Brian Sturgill and Trooper Joe Howard were honored by the Oklahoma Highway Users Foundation.

FlightSafety International has named Amparo Calatayud assistant manager of its Dallas/Fort Worth Learning Center. She joined FlightSafety in 1997 as an instructor and was promoted to assistant manager the following year. She served as manager of the San Antonio Learning Center for five years before leaving the company. Calatayud joined the U.S. Army in 1975 and served with the 159th Aviation Unit, the Allied Systems Training Dept. and the Helicopter Battalion at the School of the Americas as an instructor pilot and maintenance test pilot evaluator. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens College in New York and a Master of Science degree in management from the Florida Institute of Technology. FlightSafety also named Michael Halsey director of manufacturing at its FlightSafety Simulation unit. He will oversee manufacturing activities and support workflow optimization and quality management systems. He previously served as director of operations for the Interiors and Structures Div. of the NORDAM Group in Tulsa, Okla.
