Nominations are open for Rotor & Wing’s Helicopter Heroism Award. For more than 40 years, the award has honored crews who tested the limits of their skill and courage and the performance of their aircraft to save others. This year, R&W will present four awards. Three will honor rescue crews from each of three operation types: public service, military and commercial/corporate/private. The top award, the Helicopter Heroism Award, will honor the crew that performed the most remarkable rescue, regardless of the type of operation involved. All the awards cover rescues performed in calendar year 2007. Nominations are due by Aug. 1, 2008. The awards will be presented at the 2008 Search and Rescue Summit Sept. 18 in Reston, Va.
