The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that on October 2 at approximately 10:30 a.m., a Missouri National Guard helicopter flying a marijuana eradication mission with a state trooper on board was shot at by a 69-year old woman armed with a rifle. MSHP spokesman Sgt. Martin Elmore told R&W that ground units who were assisting in the drug operation searched the area and located the woman moments later. She was taken into custody and at last report is being held while officials determine if criminal charges or other forms of intervention are warranted. Elmore reports that no injuries or damages were sustained in the incident, but he personally recalls one time when another National Guard helicopter received damaged from ground fire while flying an eradication mission in the state.
