Bell Layoffs

Due to the DoD’s termination of the ARH-70A contract, Bell Helicopter fired approximately 500 workers yesterday. This is a 4 percent reduction in staff company wide with management taking the biggest hit, losing 40 people all in the eight Fort Worth facilities. These facilities account for 470 people losing their jobs in various disciplines including production, engineering, manufacturing and finance. Approximately 30 people lost their positions in the Amarillo, Texas facility, with no loss in Mirabel, Canada. Bell will provide all employees with post-employment support through the Texas Workforce Commission and Lee Hecht Harrison. The company will also provide severance pay for eligible employees through December 31, 2008. When asked how the decision was reached regarding which employees to cut, Bell told R&W, “All positions, levels and job categories were reviewed as we attempted to retain the staff best able to ensure our business success in the future.” For related news
