The Indian Air Force assigned four helicopters to transport election officials, voting machines, security personnel and members of the media to polling sites in Gurez and the remote areas of Zanskar and Leh. The missions, which began on Nov. 15 and included several trips in snow and heavy rain, were carried out to ensure the smooth conduct of India’s Assembly elections in the sometimes hostile regions. The flights are scheduled to continue as needed until the election process has ended on or about Nov. 24. For related news
