U.S. Helicopters, the only operator providing scheduled helicopter taxi service from Manhattan to New York’s JFK Airport and Newark’s Liberty Airport, has cancelled all flights out of the Downtown Manhattan Heliport (JRB). The reason is a failure of the heliport’s new fixed-base operator, First Flight, to submit a security plan to the Transportation Security Administration. The heliport had been operated by the New York Port Authority, which had all of the appropriate security procedures in place. But when control changed hands, First Flight failed to provide the updated security plan the TSA requires when a new operator takes over, which led to an automatic closure of the heliport until a new plan ca be submitted and approved. U.S. Helicopters continues to transport passengers using its second terminal at the East 34th Street Heliport (6N5). For related news
