Pirate Attack Thwarted by Helo

A helicopter, dispatched from the German Navy frigate Karlsruhe, ended pirates' plans to rob a merchant ship near the Somalian coast. The use of helos in the Gulf of Aden, one of the world's busiest sea lanes, is becoming a more common occurrence. Estimates vary, but during 2008, the hijackers stole $30 million from ships in the area. Many countries, including the U.S., U.K., India, France and Germany, are positioning their helicopter-equipped naval forces in that part of the world. For related news
