Rotorcraft Report: Indian Navy Commissions First Helo Base

Although the city of Mumbai has had an airbase since 1964, India opened its first dedicated helicopter base there on Thursday, Jan. 22. INS Shikra will be home to Sea King, Kamov 28, Kamov 31 and Chetak helicopters. One of the missions of the aircraft based there will be to bolster coastal defense in the aftermath of the terrorist attack that occurred in the city Nov. 2008.
