The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Forward was scheduled to return home to Portsmouth, Va. yesterday, following a 56-day patrol of the Caribbean Sea. While conducting patrols, a crew from the Forward located nearly 2,900 pounds of cocaine on a vessel. The drugs, along with five suspects, were given to Panamanian authorities. Cutter Forward’s crew also conducted extensive training while deployed including armed helicopter work-ups in Mayport, Fla., and ship-helicopter operations off the coast of Cape Canaveral.
