India’s Dhruvs for Border Patrol

India’s Union Home Ministry has approved an expansion program for border security, which includes the purchase of eight new helicopters. According to the Hindu News Update Service, the helicopters will be Dhruv advanced light helicopters manufactured by India-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The country’s current border patrol rotorcraft fleet consists of six Mi-17 helicopters. The new aircraft will begin arriving within two months with the last being delivered sometime in 2010.
