Investigators from the U.K.’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch are reporting that the delay rescuers experienced while searching for a downed helicopter in the North Sea earlier this year may have been caused by personal rescue beacons. The report says the lower-powered individual locator beacons worn by the 16 oil rig workers aboard the Bond Helicopters AS332 may have blocked the aircraft’s stronger emergency locator beacon, resulting in an inability to hear the beacon from a greater distance.
