On Sunday, June 28, United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 317 voted overwhelmingly to sign-off on a three-year deal with Bell Helicopter, thus averting a possible midnight strike when its contract was due to expire. Local 317 represents 340 white-collar workers at five Bell offices in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Fellow Bell employees in the area who belong to UAW Local 218 remain on the picket line over proposed increases in medical benefits and the company’s plan to outsource janitorial services. Local 218's membership, which is involved in aircraft production, will return to the bargaining table on July 1.  Meanwhile, Bell says deliveries will not be affected by the production strike.
