NATO: 16 Die in Helicopter Crash

A Russian-built Mil Mi-8 helicopter carrying civilian contractors crashed during takeoff from Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of 16 people onboard. According to NATO’s Intl Security Assistance Force (ISAF), the helicopter did not get shot down, but the exact cause of the crash is still unknown. The condition of another five casualties was not immediately released. Russian company Vertikal-T owned the Mi-8, according to Russian news agency Interfax.
