Columbia Assists in Western Firefighting

Aurora, Ore.-based Columbia Helicopters has dispatched eight of its heavylift rotorcraft to assist with firefighting efforts in California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, Canada. The latest deployment involves two Boeing 234 Chinooks and six Boeing Vertol 107-IIs. Three aircraft are stationed in Oregon, two in California, two in Washington and one in Lillooet, BC. The helicopters join four other aircraft—one Chinook and three 107-IIs—that are helping fight fires in BC though Columbia affiliate Helifor Canada. The Chinook has a 2,650-gallon water bucket with the capacity to carry 12 crewmembers, and the Vertol 107-II can carry eight passengers, using a 1,100-gallon bucket.
