The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command in Huntsville, Ala. has awarded a $15.4-million delivery order for FLIR Systems’ Star SAFIRE stabilized multi-sensor systems. FLIR Systems will install the sensors on U.S. Army Black Hawks over the next 12 months at its facility in Wilsonville, Ore. The helicopters are used to support medevac missions.

Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services has won an initial contract to modify UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) Boeing Chinook helicopters. Work is scheduled to start before the end of this year at Vector’s facility in Fleetlands, England. The contract is part of a major upgrade program and common configuration of the MoD’s Chinook helicopters that operate in Afghanistan.

Cambridge, Mass.-based BBN Technologies Corp. has received an $8.65-million contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in Arlington, Va. The agreement calls for BBN Technologies to equip five operational H-60 Black Hawks with its helicopter alert and threat termination (HALTT) shooter detection and localization systems.
