Charlotte Adams covers aviation and defense technology. She has written for Aviation Maintenance magazine and was the editor-in-chief of Avionics magazine. She also writes for the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association.

Andrew Drwiega is a senior defense journalist with a particular focus on military rotorcraft. He was the editor of Defence Helicopter for seven years. Andrew has reported on attachment from Iraq three times (the latest of which was with a U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 squadron), and twice with British forces in Afghanistan (Kandahar and Camp Bastion), as well as from numerous NATO and British exercises. He has reported on rotary forces across the world, and in doing so has flown in a wide variety of rotorcraft on training missions, exercises and on operations including the Osprey, Apache, Rooivalk and many others. Andrew has also been involved in organizing, chairing and attending defense and helicopter conferences around the world. He has an extensive military library of around 400 books.

Thierry Dubois is a long-time contributor to Access Intelligence publications. He has been an aerospace journalist for 12 years, specializing in helicopters since 2006. He writes on technical subjects, both for professional media and a popular science magazine in France, where he is based.


Giovanni de Briganti has covered the aerospace and defense industry since the beginning. Born in Italy, he lived in Texas, Virginia and South Australia before settling in Paris. He is currently editor-in-chief of, a news website, having previously worked for Defense News, Armed Forces Journal and various European defense publications, including two that he founded. A self-avowed total helicopter person, he has been covering European issues for Rotor & Wing since the mid-1980s.

Emily Feliz is the managing editor of Avionics magazine, a position she has held for three years. Feliz came to Avionics after two years as assistant managing editor at Traffic World, a logistics and freight transportation magazine. Before that, she was an assistant news editor at Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News. She is a 2001 graduate of Pennsylvania State University.

Dale Smith has been an aviation journalist for 24 years specializing in business aviation. He is currently a contributing editor for Rotor & Wing and other leading aviation magazines. He has been a licensed pilot since 1974 and has flown 35 different types of general aviation, business and WWII vintage aircraft. In his spare time he moonlights as a award-winning aviation artist.

Ed Van Winkle is a retired captain from the Gainesville (FL) Police Department, where he was the aviation unit commander and an active law enforcement pilot. Ed is also a helicopter CFII, and he currently works for a major helicopter manufacturer as a sales representative.

Richard Whittle, longtime Pentagon correspondent for The Dallas Morning News, writes regularly for Rotor & Wing about military aircraft and related topics. Rick is the author of a book on the V-22 Osprey that Simon & Schuster will publish in April 2010.

Thomas Withington is a French-based freelance defence writer and analyst. He has contributed articles to a range of defense publications and mainstream media across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia. He has performed major consulting projects for a range of blue chip private sector and public sector clients. He is a research associate at the Center for Defense Studies, King’s College, London; an associate member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS); and a Member of the RAeS Air Power Group.
