The Japanese Ground Self Defense Force has selected Enstrom Helicopter Corp. to provide helicopters for its training program. The agreement includes a total of 30 Enstrom 480Bs through 2014, with the first scheduled for delivery this year. Blake & DeJong’s David Blake, Enstrom managing representative in Asia, notes that “the JGSDF bidding and selection process is extremely rigorous. To be chosen after such an exhausting review really shows that Enstrom and the 480B are serious contenders for military training aircraft.” The order follows another recent contract for 16 480B trainers from the Royal Thai Army.
