The Sensors and Integrated Systems business of Goodrich Corp. celebrated the handover of its 2,000th helicopter health and usage management system (HUMS) in a ceremony this week in Vergennes, Vt. The company provides HUMS for various U.S. Army and Marine Corps rotorcraft platforms. During the event, U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) said: “These life-saving, money-saving [HUMS] devices keep our helicopters flying safely and have been at the heart of this region’s economy.” Gary Loftus, vice president of the Goodrich division, added that an Army Black Hawk unit recently set a record for number of hours flown in a 12-month period and saved around $45-million in maintenance costs.
