In a preliminary report released Monday, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) revealed that the pilot of a Hospital Wing-operated Eurocopter AS350 that crashed March 25 in Tennessee was trying to “beat the storm.” Three people died in the Brownsville crash—pilot Doug Phillips and passengers Misty Brogdon and Cindy Parker. According to NTSB, Phillips told an oncoming shift pilot a few minutes before taking off that he “wanted to get the helicopter out.” After talking more about the approaching thunderstorm, Phillips said that he figured there was about 18 minutes left to get the helicopter back to base and get in front of the storm.
